I use the Epson Workforce 600 for my office print/scan/fax needs, see my brief review in An inexpensive and fast everyday office printer.
One thing I do regularly is to scan a variety of receipts, snippets of articles, etc.
The Epson Workforce 630 (about $120) can scan directly to a digital camera SDHC or Compact Flash memory card, which is the way I worked it until I got tired of transferring the card to/from the scanner/computer each time. Also, the direct scan to card approach does not offer TIF output, so for highest quality, scanning to the computer is better.
But the Epson Workforce can also scan directly to the computer, as shown below.
Scan directly into your Mac using the Mac OS X Image Capture application, as shown below.

Like the Microsoft Windows operating system, Apple's Mac OS X allows you to connect a scanner to your computer. Unlike Microsoft, Apple asks you not to install the scanner's software because Mac OS X has the most up-to-date version of the device's software via its Software Update utility. After connecting the scanner to your Mac, you can use the device with Mac OS X applications, such as Preview and Image Capture.
1.Click the 'Apple' icon in the menu bar at the top-left corner of the desktop.

Select 'Software Update' from the drop-down list. The Software Update utility automatically checks for any available updates.
3.Select all items in the Software Update window, then click 'Install.' The updates automatically install. This includes any updates that are for your scanner. Restart your Mac if prompted.
4.Connect the scanner to your Mac with its USB cable. The scanner is automatically added to the scanner/printer queue in your Mac.
